REASONS TO HIRE THE RED DESERT RAMBLERS FOR A FESTIVAL
-The Ramblers earned national acclaim as the first, and only Utah band (and I was the first and only hammered dulcimer player) hired to perform at the International Bluegrass Music Association Fan Festival in Nashville. We have been rehired (or offers for rehire) at every festival we’ve played, including 4 years in a row at Darrington, 5 years for Bannock County, Pickin’ in the Pines in Flagstaff, countless times at Logandale (Southern Nevada Bluegrass Association), Bluegrass in the Barn (Nampa), Hard Times (Montana) and more.
-state champions in banjo and dulcimer. Sharon (dulcimer) and Richard (mandolin) have also been honored to judge the Utah State Nationally affiliated instrument contests for all instruments.
-Having a hammered dulcimer in the band distinguishes us from other bluegrass bands.
-personable and genuine stage presence with professional dress.
-regional draw due to the years of performing at festivals throughout the west and as members of many bluegrass organizations (see links).
-The Red Desert Ramblers jam differently from other bands. Often, we do not jam together. At festivals, we facilitate jamming, with people other than our own band members. We know the value of preservation of both musical and social aspects of "bluegrass/traditional community" and we’re just plain, nice folks, so we meet a lot of people. As a result, we are chosen to facilitate begriming jam workshops at various festivals.
-Sharon was awarded a Bluegrass in the Schools Grant to facilitate outreach and education through the International Bluegrass Music Association.
-Our credentials for workshops are excellent. Sharon taught elementary school (including music) for 25 years, Richard counseled high school for 35 years, Steve teaches skiing to elementary aged students. Dave’s community focus has been on mentoring teens interested in bluegrass and swing music. We have a wide range of workshops listed on our outreach page.
-Sharon, has booked a successful local concert series monthly since 1999. In addition she has booked mainstream shows, bluegrass festivals in Wyoming, and Utah, house concerts, assemblies and community events. We know and respect the need for time flexibility to make promoters job easier. We have perspective on promoter and audience needs and are a boon from both musical and promotional standpoints. Steve and Dave have booked many festivals (ongoing) as well. Please see list on the bookings page.
